'IMARA THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: THRESHOLD' RAISES THE STAKES
Network ROB Miniseries Premieres #1 Among P18-49 and P25-54
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (October 25, 2004) -- The fans have spoken. They love their Slayer. The premeire of part one of the miniseries Imara the Vampire Slayer: Threshold (Oct. 23 @ 1-7pm ET/PT) averaged a 3.14 HH rating/1,234,567 P2+, making ROB the #1 non-sports cable network for P25-54 and P18-49 for the time period.
ROB trounced its competition among P25-54, outdelivering SCI FI's most recent B-movie "Viper Vs. Anaconda Vs. Garden Snake" (24%), TNT's "Yet More Law and Order" (45%) and Spike TV's "The Manlier Man Show" (42%). They fared no better among P18-49, with ROB outperforming them all.
With these impressive rankings, the mini was up 42% in HH ratings and scored triple digit increases in key demos versus the time period average for October 2003:
• +447% in P25-54
• +1013% in P18-49
Night Two of the mini will be airing in November, potentially November 20th, where studio execs expect it to do just as well.
Network ROB is a television network that never cancels quality genre television. ROB has fueled the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster miniseries and classic science fiction and fantasy programming, as well as a dynamic Web site (www.oswego.edu/~kirker/slayer). Launched in 1978, and going public in 1990, ROB is a network of STG Universal, one of the country's leading media and entertainment companies.

Ain't-It-Nifty-News' insider has reportedly spoken to the stars of ROB's new Imara the Vampire Slayer miniseries! He asked them what their characters have been up to in the months leading up to the limited series (September - November), considering the rumors that have been floating about, namely:
* At the end of August after Victoria, Pike, and H3lix have gone back to California, Eoin finally awakens from his coma. But something has *happened* to him. He's a little stronger, a little tougher, and is different, somehow...
* Eoin disappears without a word to go to a monk-like retreat in Vermont to try to cope with his personal demons that led him onto his descent into black magic. The monks are initially receptive, but then kick him out. After all, chronic smoking and drinking and the monastery do mix so well. Or is there another reason, something they're *afraid* of?
* Hannah's visions begin to intensify - she's getting glimpses of Slayers' lives from all over the world, now that hundreds have been called.
* While Eoin's gone, Hannah gets a phone call from a gentleman with a British accent. It's Maxwell, a Watcher of the old guard that survived the purge (and astute Slayer views may remember him as one of two Watchers - the other being Geoffrey, Imara's surrogate father - that inducted Eoin into the Council). There's a new Council being formed, and they want Eoin's help. When Eoin returns, he agrees - and the Chapel Hill Watcher Chapter House is born.
* The new Watcher Chapter House is nearly completed when suddenly, and without any seeming reason, the city accidentally confuses it with a house marked for demolition and it is destroyed. The mess is sorted out when Eoin realized the house was being built in his name... and instead, the Council rents the group an apartment right on Franklin street as a safe house.
* The Council outfits the new branch with lots of resources - a lab, computers, occult tomes, weaponry, a car, and so on. They even accede to Eoin's quirky request to put it all in Hannah's name. In addition, they provide funds to hire four staff in addition to Eoin. Naturally, the employees end up being Hannah, Imara, Hunter, and Raven (with Zac being "on the res.") Strangely, Eoin's checks keep getting lost in the mail. Along with material resources, the new branch benefits from the Council's connections - with the Mayor's office, local demons, and others.
* Not all is fun and games, however. Shortly after Eoin awakens, monsters begin appearing in Chapel Hill with some regularity again. Then, in September on the night of the equinox, Imara has a vision that reveals the presence of a
powerful hell demon in town. After a massive battle, the demon is vanquished.
* Then, on Halloween, the group has to deal with a number of demons that have possessed children over previous week and a half and use the children to acquire the sugar they need to survive and complete their metamorphosis. Once they're freed from the children, they're defeated.
* Lastly, plans for Hannah's 18th birthday party at the end of November were ruined with a tentacled monster appeared downtown. The demon was almost defeated, but escaped into the city's complex sewer system.

SciFi Blast! Interview!
Excerpts from the October interview with Rob Kirker:
SciFi Blast!: Every fanboy wants to know - which of the characters is the hottest?
Kirker: (laughs) You're making me choose? I don't think the ladies would forgive me if I answered!
SciFi Blast!: We won't tell, we promise!
Kirker: Alright, I'll just say she has lovely hair. As you can see. In a commercial. I've said too much!
SciFi Blast!: (laughs) Okay, back to the miniseries, then. It takes place when?
Kirker: We've moved up the timetable by six months. That's given our characters a chance to grow and change a little in the meantime, as well as setting the stage for the new story.
SciFi Blast!: What can you tell us about the changes in between?
Kirker: Well, first of all, Imara has been coming to grips with losing her Slayer powers. She's at a new place, now - instead of just being a soldier and a weapon, she's a whole being. She's had to deal with emotion, which she's repressed for so long. She's had to deal with being weaker, as well - she has to deal with being *human*. She's vulnerable now.
SciFi Blast!: Emotion, hmm? Are we finally going to see her and Hunt...
Kirker: Don't even ask! (laughs)
SciFi Blast!: Can't blame a guy...
Kirker: You'll see. But on top of those changes, Imara discovers that, while she doesn't have the Slayer powers anymore, there's something... else. She begins having dreams of Slayers in action. Modern day Slayers, in the moments before they're killed...
SciFi Blast!: The newly called Slayers?
Kirker: That's right. She's connected to them, somehow.
SciFi Blast!: Pretty dark!
Kirker: And on top of that, she's still able to sense the presence of vampires...
SciFi Blast!: Interesting! I'm guessing you'll say no more about that. What about Eoin? Still in a coma?
Kirker: Hey, the guy needs his sleep! Remember - "a year of darkness."
SciFi Blast!: But he'll be back... ?
Kirker: You've seen the casting list, I take it. I can't say any more.
SciFi Blast!: Okay, what about everyone's favorite government playboy, Frankie?
Kirker: It's Hunter all the time now. He's reconciled his past with his present self. Which is not to say he IS Hunter - he'll always be a little bit of Frankie to soften those harder edges, but it's definitely Hunter now.
SciFi Blast!: No more of the multiple personality angst?
Kirker: He's gone through that. Over the summer, Raven was able to restore the majority of his memories. Not quite everything - we have to keep some mystery! - but enough that he is, finally, Hunter again.
SciFi Blast!: And what's he been up to?
Kirker: Well, he's been spending a lot of time with Raven, making up for lost time. They're hiding from the government since Raven's a hot commodity. They have an apartment together, where Hunter's helped her pillage the old Initiative base to set up a high tech lab. He spends the summer working as a bouncer at a demon bar just outside of town, and in his free time he goes patrolling with Imara. He's a big source of support for her while she's going through her changes of losing her Slayer powers and coping with the new effects.
SciFi Blast!: Lots of late night stake-outs, then?
Kirker: Well, the Hellmouth is gone, and most of the monster population is gone, but there are always a few stray vamps and demons about.
SciFi Blast!: Okay. What about Hannah?
Kirker: As you know from the last finale, Hannah is entertaining some guests from out of town. She spends the summer on a much needed break with H3lix, Victoria, and Pike. She's able to get over a lot of the stress and depression that plagued her recently. In fact, at one point she's able to take H3lix away on a tropical getaway...
SciFi Blast!: They're enjoying not having to be long distance, huh?
Kirker: You could say that. And this time, she remembers.
SciFi Blast!: (laughs) The fans are going to kill you for not doing that on-screen.
Kirker: You're probably right!
SciFi Blast!: No walks under the full moon, I take it?
Kirker: Actually, that becomes a priority of hers. She spends a lot of time doing research on the matter - since she's been research girl - and is able to use the amulet to control many of the transformations. And towards the end of the summer, she makes a momentous choice - she seeks out Hera's Own and asks for their advice.
SciFi Blast!: What do they say?
Kirker: They offer her their help - if she's willing to do it their way.
SciFi Blast!: Can we look forward to a bike-riding, leather-clad Hannah?
Kirker: Wait and see!
SciFi Blast!: Anything else you can tell us?
Kirker: A little about Zac. The after effects of losing his powers plague him. He actually gives up on the idea of school and focuses on meditation and his shamanic heritage. He goes back to the Eastern Cherokee and is welcomed with open arms. Not that it's easy - he spends the summer getting in touch with his inner spirit as well as the spirits of his people. By the end of the summer, the tattoos have returned.
SciFi Blast!: So he's got the mojo back!
Kirker: Some of it. He's back on the right path, but it's tentative and very easy to fall back off of. He's truly trying to be a guide and teacher.
SciFi Blast!: Okay, you keep saying "at the end of the summer." What about the lead-in to the miniseries? It begins in, what, November?
Kirker: The end of November, yes. And for the rest - you'll have to...
SciFi Blast!: ...wait and see. And we will! Thanks for chatting with us!
Kirker: My pleasure. Current Mood: happy

One more time...
Hey, all y'all, e-mail me what your characters have been up to June - August. As in, by tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 9 pm. E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
|Sunday, October 10th, 2004|
Alright, all ye scallywags...
Is everyone okay with having the first part of the miniseries October 23rd from 12-5 (correct me if I'm wrong, but that should be LARP weekend)? I want to hear from all y'all, including Drew, Daneene, Bree, Mike, Aaron, and Chris. You're all invited.
Assuming we're good to go on that date, I'm also looking for answers to the following question(s):
Given that, over the summer of 2004, Clay was in a coma, Victoria, H3lix, and Pike were in Chapel Hill visiting, and Raven was adjusting to life in ol' Chapel Hill, what were your cast members doing? Was there patrolling? Did anyone go anywhere? What about jobs, living arrangements, etc? This one's a gimme for Drew. This is from June 2004 - August 2004.
Next we'll talk about September 2004 - November 2004 (yes, the miniseries will be set in the end of November).

Naughty Antagonist president Rob Kirker

Kirker eyes miniseries for Imara...
Writer/director Rob Kirker told SciFi Blast! that he's interested in directing a new miniseries version of Drew Urbanek's groundbreaking TV series Imara the Vampire Slayer
. "I've always been a fan of Mr. Urbanek's work," Kirker said in an interview. "I think there's still a lot of story to tell, and I'd like a chance to do some more with that world."
Kirker, who has recently ended his run on Slayer
, added, "Imara [the Vampire Slayer] was left in a really interesting place. There are a lot of great story elements left to explore, and I'd really enjoy working with the cast again. Aside from that, it's just walloping good fun."
The writer-director of Dreams of an Angel
and The Five Tribes
, a spin off from Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer
, in turn, spun off into Imara the Vampire Slayer
. When asked why he wanted to go back to that franchise instead of his others, Kirker said, "I'm at a place where I've finished a lot of projects and I'd like to go back and work on some properties I really enjoyed. I know there's a lot of fan interest in this, so I hope things can come together."
The future of the project is in doubt, however. While Kirker has expressed interest, he's not sure if there's a chance. "I haven't had a chance to speak to Drew [Urbanek] about this yet. And I know the actors are busy with other roles, so that's always an obstacle. I'd like to get in touch with them and see how they feel about it." But it looks like the production company is game. "Naughty Antagonist is ready to continue. We've secured a distributor. Now it's up to fate."
When asked about other projects he's working on, Kirker hedged a little. "I can't say much now. I'm involved in a side project in a purely supplemental role. I've got an idea for a sci fi show - hard science, less fantasy. I hope it'll be as good as [Joss Whedon's] Firefly, but last longer."
(Hey, guys - was thinking about coming into Oz a few times a semester to see some peeps and possibly LARP. I thought, hey, wouldn't it be fun to get the ol' gang back together and do a couple of standalone or miniseries type episodes of Imara? Let me know how you feel about this! It would be on Saturdays, from 12 or so until 5 or so, having it done in time for NYSH.) Current Mood: creative

A series of images, in time to a drumming heartbeat..
Imara, crowded in on all sides by the Home Team as they fight off Vampires, her head held in her hands. Softly, with a french accent, she whispers, "Where am I?"
Amidst rubble and small bits of burning trash, Hunter helps a black clad figure struggle to his feet. Imara cocks her head and says in a Jamaican accent, "I remember you."
Scattering for cover, the Home Team slides behind rocks and crags as an Initiative 2204 Armored Mech lumbers towards them, arm cannons blazing angrily. Imara's face suddenly twists into a defiant snarl as she charges the machine, bellowing a Norse curse as she waves her sword over her head.
Hannah's face drains of blood as she whispers, "We have to do what?"
As the Home Team descends into the Hellmouth, a voice calls out, "Going somewhere?". Their heads turn and Dora stands there, wearing ancient grecian robes and jewelry.
Angel, wounded and dishevelled, looks back over his shoulder and states, "It's gone."
TV-Guide: Imara the Vampire Slayer, "End Times". Special Guest stars David Boreanaz as Angel, Norah Jones as Fray. Angel arrives in Chapel Hill to help undo the time disturbance, as it has a serious new impact on Imara herself. 7pm, Thursday, WDRU. TV-PG.

For three years..
The "resovoir dogs" shot of Victoria, Hannah, H3lix, Dime, Pike, and Eoin as they march of the basement stairs. Hannah's primped and stylish, H3lix is talking with someone on his cellphone, and Victoria wears 'the jacket' and smiles like it's a new Sunday. Eoin trails behind them, chain smoking and trying the juggle his axe and a leather-bound tome. Pike just grins and shakes his head, quietly enjoying the scene. Dime brings up the rear, looking confused as he sips pigs blood through a straw from a plastic travel mug. The typical "Headed for trouble" shot. A brassy military march scores the clip..
..the world has secretly been saved..
The march turns darker as it's taken over by a kettle drum. Deep in the sewers, we have the same resovoir dogs shot of the next generation. Imara leads, naked steel slung over her shoulder. Frankie flanks her priming a grim looking pistol as Hannah has the crossbow levelled towards the camera. Behind them is Zack, armed only with a halogen lamp and quick darting eyes. Melvin trails afterwards, frowning and the thin crystaline slab as it scrolls through information, illuminating his face with an unearthly green glow.
..from the things that go bump in the night..
A flurry of shots. Ashton's smirk as he leads a girl away on his arm. The automotive joust between Imara and Puck. Xavier licking blood off his fingertips with his game-face on. The final moments of Victoria's life as the Shadow demon pours itself into her. The first Slayer trading a flurry of blows with Imara. Dora releasing Kendrick Plummer Battle from the painting with a glowing red jewel. The growling Fortune Demon, Bazzlebaxx. Hannah wolfing out and tearing through Vampires. Hunter's spin-kick continued to a stake through the heart of a dusting Vampire. Johhny Redwater getting sucked down into the Hellmouth..
.. with only the wrong people watching.
The primitive kettle drum is replaced with a drum-and-bass score, as the camera pans into the Initiative nerve center. At the quiet Marlin-Bryant plant, 3 blackhawk helicopters land, with soldiers pouring out and into a small fleet of Mr. Smoothee vans. White-coated technicians write at clip boards as a barechested mulatto nods, flexes his arms, and glowing circuitry ignites beneath his skin. Jessie, the wild-child Slayer marches past, arguing with Dr. Imbrogio, her hair neatly pinned back and wearing an Initiative uniform. White coated technicians smile in unison around a computer screen and signal thumbs up. Their smiles turn weak as a shadow passes in front of them.
Now, they're the ones who are going to bump back.
The drum and bass is filled with shrieking electric guitars as the we see Chapel Hill how it is today: A Tyrannosaurus Rex lumbers down Franklin street, tossing cars and smashing windows; on it's side are a host of Vampires sucking the thing dry. As the beast lumbers past, we see Confederate soldiers skirmishing with cyber-punk vampires, and losing. A model T driven by mummified Indians is suddenly destroyed by a blast from a hovering anti-gravity ship, it's spotlights sweeping over the city and randomly raining more red blasts down onto the nightmarish city. This ship suddenly shudders from explosions as a battalion of Sherman Tanks, complete with hard-as-nails sarge chewing a cigar under a lopsided helmet, fire salvo after salvo into the ship. That seargent is suddenly riddled with arrows as Indians ride by on horseback, only to be trampled beneath a sudden locomotive. Buildings are suddenly engulfed in fire as the history of it's residence suddenly sparks back to life. British Redcoats run in fear from a clockwork robot riding a Vespa. Above the day turns to night then back to day. Snow falls only to be melted by sudden heat wave before it hits the concre--blackto--cobblestone roads below. The Avalon flashes from it's usual appearance to a barbershop, to a warehouse where slaves are being sold, to an empty lot being seeded by Colonial settlers, who also run in fear from the Vespa. Amidst it all, civilians run screaming, trying to find some sanity or safety. And everywhere, there is fire and destruction. The camera suddenly pans, and soldiers are seen pouring out of the sewers, armored Hum Vees screeching to a halt beside them. One driver hits the squak on his transmitter, "Operation Roundhammer is go." Overhead, Apache helicopters swoop down. In their wake, coming in from to coast, three stars begin moving towards the city.. trailing little veins of white smoke..
Only three more episodes till the series finale of Imara, the Vampire Slayer. Will the world survive?
TV Guide: Imara the Vampire Slayer, "End of the World as We Know It". Cameo appearance by Norah Jones as Fray. As the Initiative begins an open assault on the city, the home team soon discovers how far the time wave is reaching as new clues about Imara begin to emerge. Thursday 7pm, WDRU. TV-PG
